Mitsubishi is dead. Boring and dead. Outlander is crap. Galant is boring. I-Miev is expensive for electric. Lancers? Eh. Mitsubishi's last chance to pull itself up may very well be the next gen Lancer Evo. Hybrid powertrain? Better than nothing. But that's the Japanese Company's chance. You see Ferrari and Porsche making their electrics/hybrids (don't correct me) but Mitsubishi could make the Japanese Hybrid actually look cool (*cough cough Toyota Boring cough cough*). So if Mitsubishi can make the hybrid look cool they could very well show they are still alive. They need to improve greatly, though. Keep the aggressive styling, looks cool. But you need MOAR POWAR. It's a RALLY CAR for the road! It needs to be able to powerslide and stuff. Give better interior styling (but keep the Recaros). Just make the mechanical stuffs better than the last generation (or the next gen Subaru) and you may very well revive yourself. More power, more style, more handling, more profit. (Restyle Galant, too please?)

A production powertrain based on the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution II Pikes Peak car is going to be introduced into the Outlander next year in Japan. I would expect that we won't see an Evo based on that powertrain until at least a year later — and a lot can change in 2 years. Either way, Mitsubishi brass is still being cagy about details and not even admitting they're working on a next-gen Evolution (and in the same breath reassuring us that IF they were thinking about one, it *could* have... etc... etc...)

Based on looks alone, I don't like it.

You can't judge a book by its cover but I like the exterior.

I think they need to make something cheap and fast. The Evo (especially a hybrid one) will be neither. They need a Genesis Coupe or FRS/BRZ fighter. The AWD fight has closed as the prices and technology got too high. Launching a new Evo will be like returning to the party after beer run, but the party has already shut down.
Take a 4 cylinder, put it in a light RWD body and call it the RTO-4 . Make it cheaper and lower powered than the FRS. Still I think there is a spot in the market for such a car. It can make 140-160HP it would sell. Give it 2 speakers and a amp with Bluetooth connectivity and a swapable phone base. Have the gauges change colors based on tempo of the music being played. Do things that make it Kia Soul funky, but not heavy or expensive. The idea is undercut and attract, while staying cheap and light. Make the "cheap and chenzy" parts seem thought out, "Why have a useless stereo when you have a phone?". "Why have 4 speakers in a small car when you only listen to stereo audio, we gave you 2 hgh quality speakers, your car gets to weigh less. More MPG and Performance!"
Then once that is to market put a turbo on it and call it the Starion or the RTO-4 Evo. Try to stay within 1500 of a BRZ with that car.
I think the Evo X was great, but it got too expensive. It got away from what was great about those cars. They were relatively cheap for the performance. But the Evo MR made people look at what else could be had for the same price. I say move the a cheap market again. The inexpensive RWD is the market.

No, they are planning to make a Nissan GT-R fighter. Pretty ambitious, ey?

Pretty flawed I say. But I think Mitsu will be out of the US market in a year or 2.

Unless they show what they really can do in the next model year or so.

Irony is outlander is selling better than anything else they got... and the criticism the new mirage is getting... *sigh* it's hard being a Mitsu fanboy nowadays, because even I don't think they will be coming up with something that could save them, they are long overdue... Evo I, II, III on similar chassis, IV, V VI similar chassis... VII, VIII, IX same, why not XI on this one as well? XII with a facelift a'la eclipse, and THEN make the XIII the hybrid... 13th's gotta be the magic number right?

I hope they can get it done in XI. They gotta do it quick or their market in America is gonna go down the drain.

It is already down there... I don't know, they feel unresponsive... they are careless, Mitsubishi owners day was a dud this year... but they do have the technology, the i-MIEV evo 2 did well........right?.........

I just don't think it will work. They need something that will sell at all dealerships. They need things rolling down the road that people see and notice.
High end cars work great to bring people into showrooms, but you don't sell many of them. Nissan keeps the doors open with Altimas, Sentras and Versas. Ferrari doesn't have the network and mouths for feed Mitsu has. I think the reason Mitsu is dying now is because they spent time playing with car that has a very narrow market. Not sure doing more of the same will help.
Mitsus best years where back when they offered cheap speed. The Eclipse original, in all forms was a pretty good performance and style bargin. They need that. A new high end car may bring in foot traffic, but what are those people going to buy?
Still I'll raise a pint to them, good luck Mitsu.

They need a new Eclipse, done right. A small, lightweight, AWD, manual car. Like ~2800lbs with 190-210hp getting like 30mpg.
